What Happened??
Earlier in the week, we had a major hardware disaster with the dedicated server this site was hosted on. The hard drive in that server crashed. It was completely destroyed. All of the data on that drive was lost. This made up every image, every post and all of the content created over the last seven years. Every attempt was made to recover that data but the hard drive was damaged beyond repair. There was no mirrored hard drive for this server. Although we backed up the data regularly, after our successful upgrade, we deleted those back up files. This was done just hours before the hard drive failure. We scheduled and were preparing to back up the new site within days. This left a window of vulnerability. One that we didnt anticipate developing. After our seven years of uninterrupted service the thought of a catastrophic failure didnt seem like a possibility at all. But in that window of time, it did occur. |
