SHARKE
Historical background of the ship
The British cutter SHARKE was built in 1711 at the Deptford dockyards on the Thames River. She was designed for speed. With her large sail area and because of her shallow draught and minimal tonnage she could follow smugglers anywhere, even up shallow rivers and over dangerous shoals. With her ten pounder cannons she could easily fight any small boat.
The ship model, photos, description and dimensions
The model is a somewhat smaller decoration object compared with the other ship models, well suitably as maritime symbol under spatially more restrained conditions. The extensive sails clearly make for the impression of speed and mobility.
The very finely worked model of the cutter is 1 : 50 scale. Length is 84 cm, width 27 cm, height 61 cm.
