Varkalas
It was a Greek type of vessel which been used in the islands of the Eastern Aegean Sea in the 19th century. Its name must be relative to "Barque" which is mentioned and in the seamanship of other countries. The main characteristic was the decorated counter in stern post and the straight up cutwater. It was usually rigged as "Bratchera" (two large square sails) and later as "Radopsathi" (one large square sail in foremast and a gaff sail in aft mast ).It was used as a commercial transportation vessel. In our days we see only small "Varkalas" vessels and all the boats with counter in stern are usually called so. The specific model is rigged as "Radopsathi". The model is scratch build (and everything around it)and it’s dimensions are 50 cm long (from cutwater to stern) 18,5 cm width and 57 cm in high. It's scale is 1:30. Don’t see it as a diorama. I just made a stand for this no sail vessel.
